Julie Raines
Julie Raines began Harp studies at the age of eleven, and at 17 was awarded the first prize in the ABC's Commonwealth Instrumental and Vocal Competition. She subsequently performed with all the major ABC orchestras as soloist and guest principal. In 1971 she studied with the renowned harpist and composer Marcel Grandjany at the Julliard School of Music, New York, before moving to Germany where she became Solo-Harpist with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra and toured many countries including the then USSR, South America, Scotland, Switzerland, Japan and East Germany. Julie Raines has now returned to Melbourne where she teaches at the Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Melbourne and is also Principal Harpist in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
